A program of the Emancipation Economic Development Council and the Texas Historical Commission, The Emancipation Avenue Main Street Program creates and supports equitable economic development by revitalizing commerce, celebrating African American culture, and promoting creativity on the Emancipation Avenue corridor in Houston’s historic Third Ward community. Vision
EAMS corridor will be an essential destination for residents and visitors to experience African American history and culture, establishing itself as a model for economic development without displacement of people, history or culture, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to create a prosperous neighborhood where people can live, work, and thrive.
The EEDC
Emancipation Economic Development Council is a grassroots community-based organization equitably revitalizing Third Ward with a focus on preservation of people, culture and history. This work honors our neighborhood’s deep African-American lineage while progressing toward a vibrant reinvigoration of its economic and social corridor for the benefit of a diverse set of stakeholders in particular its long-time residents (our community’s biggest investors).
Our programs seek to fulfil the needs of a community that has been forgotten. We do so through a mix of community building, resident sustainability, and equitable revitalization programs aimed at creating a sustainable, prosperous, and beautiful Third Ward.
